Replace the glass and that camera comes off its mount, even briefly, and the angle it's counting on no longer matches reality. A discrepancy of a couple of degrees sounds trivial. Static, Dynamic, or Both
Shops use one of two recalibration methods, and which one your car needs depends on the manufacturer's specification, not the shop's preference. Static calibration happens in a bay: the car sits stationary while a technician sets up printed targets or a screen at an exact measured distance and height, then runs a diagnostic tool that walks the camera through recognizing them. It typically takes 30 to 90 minutes and requires a level floor, controlled lighting, and enough clear space in front of the car — something a lot of independent glass shops simply don't have. Static setups run $150 to $400 in labor alone once you account for the equipment and the technician's time. Dynamic calibration tends to land lower, often $75 to $200, because it doesn't need dedicated bay space — but it does need clear weather and visible lane lines, which is exactly the kind of thing that turns a same-day glass job into a two-day wait in a Wisconsin winter. Add the glass itself, and a windshield replacement with recalibration on a mainstream sedan runs $600 to $900 total. Why Your Insurance Might Not Cover the Whole Thing

Dealerships almost always have the correct equipment and charge accordingly, usually at the top of the ranges above. Independent glass shops can do it just as well and often for less, provided they actually own the calibration hardware rather than promising to "handle it" through a third party you never get to verify.
The uncomfortable truth is that a lot of drivers with a recalibrated windshield never actually confirm the system works again. Take fifteen minutes on an empty stretch of road afterward and watch the lane-keep indicator on your dash — most cars show a small steering-wheel or lane icon that turns green or white once the camera is tracking properly. If it stays gray or throws a warning light, the calibration didn't take, and you want to know that in the shop's parking lot, not three weeks later when the car doesn't brake for the vehicle stopped ahead of you.
